  • OPEN ON HAZY FOOTAGE
  • A ‘Mazda MX-5’ traveling just above the speed limit (posted 70 mph), a couple in their early twenties are in the car. Sarah: (5’6″, long blonde hair, athletic figure) who is driving the car, Sean: (6’2″, short brown hair, medium build) who is the passenger. They are very much in love, Sarah is not giving her full attention to the road ahead. She is about to drive into thick fog…
  • SEAN
  • (Voice Over)
  • When the fog cleared all that remained was a mess of car parts and blood, the smell of burnt flesh was still lingering. I had been flung from the car. I think I have managed to escape with just a few cuts and bruises, but I’m not worried about me. I need to make sure Sarah is ok. What the hell was that thing that ran across the road?
  • FADE TO:
  • EXT. Road, Car Crash – Night.
  • Wide angle, covering the width of the road.
  • Two cars that have just had a head on collision, smoke from an explosion and what remains of a fire. Sean is staggering to his feet on the other side of the road.
  • SEAN
  • SARAH!
  • Sean quickly moves to the remains of the car, suddenly realising that Sarah is not there.
  • SEAN (CONT’D)
  • (Shouts louder)
  • SARAH! WHERE ARE YOU! SARAH!
  • Sean starts to panic, Sarah is not in the car. He runs around the car checking the drivers side. The door is hanging off
  • SEAN (CONT’D)
  • Where is she? The crash couldn’t have done this! Could it? I was flung pretty far! SARAH! CAN YOU HEAR ME?
  • Nothing… no noise at all.
  • SEAN (CONT’D)
  • Right that’s it I need to call the cops.
  • Sean reaches into his pocket and pulls out a mobile phone.
  • Close-up
  • He keys in the numbers “999”. He puts the phone to his ear. We hear the phone beep then he pulls the phone from his ear. ‘NO SIGNAL’ is written on the display.
  • SEAN (CONT’D)
  • Well this is fucking great! Where the hell are we?
  • Pull away shot of the width of the road.
  • SEAN (CONT’D)
  • HELP! CAN ANYONE HEAR ME? THERE HAS BEEN A CRASH! HELLO!
  • Beat
  • SEAN (CONT’D)
  • SAAARAAAAH!
  • CUT TO BLACK:
  • EXT. CRASH SITE
  • Close angle of female head on steering wheel.
  • Sarah had hit her head on the steering wheel in the crash. She has a head injury; a small amount of blood is on her forehead. She starts to regain consciousness, slowly sitting back in the seat. She suddenly realizes what just happened; turning to look at Sean she is filled with dread ‘where is Sean? She looks around franticly for her missing boyfriend.
  • UNKNOWN MALE
  • HELP! IS ANYONE THERE?
  • SARAH
  • SEAN IS THAT YOU! WHERE ARE YOU?
  • UNKNOWN MALE
  • FORGET SEAN. I’M FUCKING TRAPPED, CAN YOU MOVE? I THINK MY LEG IS BROKE.
  • SARAH
  • Yeah I can move, where are you?
  • UNKNOWN MALE
  • I’m trapped in the jag, tony looks unconscious!
  • Zoom out, wide angel of car crash. Two cars ‘Mazda MX-5’ and ‘Jaguar X-type’.
  • Sarah opens her door and exits the car moving towards the jag she spots a male figure struggling in the passenger’s seat while a female is slummed up against the steering wheel.
  • SARAH
  • I think I better look at tony she maybe seriously injured!
  • Sarah quickly moves over to the driver’s seat of the jag. The front of the car is very smashed (looks like a write-off). Sarah opens the door carefully checking not o knock tony. She reaches in the car, placing her fingers on tony’s neck
  • Close angle on Sarah’s face and hand searching for a pulse
  • SARAH (CONT’D)
  • Don’t be dead.. Please don’t be dead.. There’s no pulse! Oh no! I can find a pulse! She’s dead! Fuck!
  • Silence…
  • UNKNOWN MALE
  • What’s that smell?
  • SARAH
  • Oh fuck it’s petrol, shit, I have to get you out.
  • Sarah moves round the car and pens the passenger door. The seat has moved forward and pinned the passenger to the dashboard.
  • UNKNOWN MALE
  • Don’t just stand there fucking get me out.
  • SARAH
  • I’m gonna have to push the seat back somehow, stay still!
  • Sarah starts to push on the seat but it doesn’t move. She opens the back door and starts pulling the seat, still it doesn’t budge. She moves back to the front side door
  • SARAH (CONT’D)
  • I’m gonna try and kick the seat, could you move over slightly?
  • Sarah lines herself up and starts kicking the seats. She kicks the passenger a few time in her haste to free him.
  • UNKNOWN MALE
  • Oh shit! I smell burning. FUCKING GET ME OUT!
  • He starts struggling to free himself, as we see fire under the bonnet. Sarah looks then begin to kick harder on the chair. Finally the seat gives. Sarah reaches for the passenger and pulls him from the car, to the other side of the road as the car explodes…
